I think this is wishful thinking. Hugh is workshopping a new musical for Broadway called "Leap of Faith" which is slated to appear in the 2007-2008 season, plus he's filming "Australia" and "Wolverine" this year. IMO the producers wanted to get the news out there and dropped Hugh's name - he's on every producer's musical wish list.
