Damn Your Impudence, Sir! A&E Sinks Horatio Hornblower

Despite a wonderful night of glorious stargazing atop a smog-free mountain and karaoke(!), I'm inconsolable after reading the following quote from Burberry face and Romancing the Tome favorite, Ioan Gruffudd:

"Gruffudd lamented A&E's decision to sink 'Horatio Hornblower' in favor of reality trash like 'Mindfreak,' but took comfort in being one of Burberry's celebrity faces."
Is this the death knell for one of our very favorite mini-series? To quote our hot and heroic seafarer, "Damn, Damn, Damn." Please sign our online petition and let A&E know you're mad and you're not gonna take it anymore! --Kim

That is a crime against humanity - Horatio Hornblower is brilliant. I've got all the TV episodes and read all the books and Ioan is so perfect as Hornblower

Why would any sane production company dismiss such an award winning series? In a time when common trash is the Bill of Fare, this series offered a rewarding escape from the norm. As with the Poirot series, A&E has once again "put their foot in it" by eliminating another of its strongest attractions, along with Nero Wolfe, Ms. Marple and others. Damn, people! This is no way to run a network! Hornblower offers lessons desparatly needed by western youth and adults alike. Lessons of Duty, Loyalty, Honor and Self Sacrifice are seldom available. Shame on A&E.

Please say it is not so.....
Ioan Gruffudd is one of the best actors around. Surely there is script is in the process, to continue the excellent production of Hornblower........

Makes sense to me. Viewers love it. It looks like it makes money, both while broadcast on television and, later, in DVD sales. So, don't make any more BECAUSE IT COSTS TOO MUCH? You must spend money to make money, right? At least we have Mr. Forester's work to know how it all ends.

  10. Anyone know who did the actual sailing in the filming of this series? I'm curious why sails were often slack and flapping, when they could have as easily been trimmed.
