Then and Now...

Watched HBO's Rome last night (saving Masterpiece Theater for Tivo -- will weigh in on that later this week) and notiticed that our dear Mr. Bingley from Pride & Prejudice (the actor Simon Woods) is now playing Octavian (a.k.a. Caesar Augustus) following a bout of TV rapid-aging syndrome. I barely recognized him at first because he's missing Mr. Bingley's goofball grin, but he's still pretty captivating. -- Amy

  1. Yes! Thank you. I could not place his face for the life of me.

Curious how the formerly blonde Octavian now returns more of a red head than the supposedly red headed Vorenus.

Mmm! Still a redhead. In the director's commentary on the P&P DVD, Joe Wright mentions dyeing Simon's hair red, and that afterward it continued to grow in red. I have got to get HBO...

  3. Rome is like a who's who of Austen characters. Cicero was Mr. Collins from the A&E Pride and Prejudice, Servilia was the mother and aunt in the feminist Mansfield Park, and of course, there's Ciaran Hinds (swoon), at least, before the Ides of March.

  4. Too bad, really. The original kid (Max Pirkis) was the best actor on the show, and Octavian was the most interesting character of last season. This rapid-aging thing reminds me of what they did with the lizard-hottie hybrid on V.
