The 18th century novel
Fanny Hill, which contains 39 sex scenes, was banned in the U.S. until 1966 and the U.K. until 1970, but now an audience of
1.1 million is watching the Andrew Davies adaptation on BBC4. Which is kind of funny considering that my mom was just saying the other day that when we lived in Germany in the late '70s one of the most popular television shows there was a situation comedy about a woman who's clothes fell off by the end of every episode. --
