Ben Kingsley's career takes him from Elizabethan England to 17th century India when he plays the emperor Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal in 1648 in memory of his beloved wife (played by Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai). The film will also recount the emperor's eventual imprisonment by his son -- it's said that he spent the last days of his life gazing upon his architectural masterpiece from the confines of his cell.
